The VolleyBrains Weekly: Spikers need to...spike.
Hall of Famer said so.
Welcome to The VolleyBrains Weekly, we don't have a quick-witted intro this week, today we're all business.π
Let's get this one started.
Here's what we've got this week
Kelly Sheffield looks back
A CLASSIC Hall of Famer clip
John Cook sees the bigger picture
The art of...seam receiving
Kelly Sheffield looks back.
As mentioned last week, my favorite question to ask coaches we interview for VolleyBrains is this one:
"What advice would you give yourself as a starting coach? A piece of advice that is so clear and logical for you now, but that you had to develop over the years."
This was Kelly Sheffield's answer:
One of our favorite questions to ask coaches:
"Looking back, what advice would you give yourself as a starting coach?"@BadgerVB head coach @KellyPSheffield has a great answer on that:

Spikers need to solve bad sets!
This is an oldie but a goodie. The clip below is famous in Italian volleyball, we cleaned up the audio a bit and added some subs.
Julio Velasco was the head coach of the 'golden generation' of the '90s. A time when the Italian male national team reigned supreme in international volleyball.
Today Julio is the mentor of the Italian youth program.
(if you're a native English speaker, and a bit weirded out by subtitles.π No worries, watch till the end, because you probably will share this clip with your team in the near future.)
JC has a knack for seeing the bigger picture.
The first video call ever we did for VolleyBrains was with John Cook.
He had a lot of valuable insights to share...
: "One thing I love about volleyball is the sense of community and connection it brings to people all over the world. Call it a brotherhood, sisterhood, or whatever you want - it's something truly special about the sport."

With a whole lot of competing going on all the time...even between coaches, especially between coachesπ .
Take this moment to realize that we are part of something special. π
SC Potsdam's head coach on seam receiving.
Guillermo Naranjo Hernandez is the head coach of German top female pro team SC Potsdam.
For VolleyBrains, Guillermo analyzed 3 practice sessions, a total of 4+ hours of practice material. All this was featured over here.
